Reid Cooper's only game as an NHL backup came during Washington's very last game of the 2022/23 season. The Capitals were so close to the cap that when Charlie Lindgren got injured, they had no room to add another professional goalie. They looked to amateur netminder Reid Cooper, who had just completed his college career at Robert Morris University. He was signed to an amateur tryout agreement and was backup to Darcy Kuemper.
