October 16, 2023 Washington Capitals vs Calgary Flames. 3-2 win.

October 18, 2023 Washington Capitals vs Ottawa Senators. 1-6 loss.

October 21, 2023 Washington Capitals vs Montreal Canadiens. 2-3 loss. 

   The Washington Capitals started the 2023-24 season with goalies Darcy Kuemper and Charlie Lindgren. Just before the season could begin, Kuemper left the team temporarily to be with his wife and their newborn child. With Kuemper away, Charlie Lindgren was named the Capitals goalie for the season opener and Clay Stevenson was recalled to dress as his backup. Stevenson was sent back to the AHL's Hershey Bears after the season opener, a loss to the Penguins. Just a couple of days later, Stevenson found himself back with the NHL club when Charlie Lindgren injured himself during a pregame skate. Stevenson dressed for another three NHL games, this time as Kemper's backup.
