1 NHL Game
March 12, 2013 Anaheim Ducks vs Minnesota Wild. 2-1 win.
Trough a mutual friend of Anaheim Ducks Assistant GM David McNab, Zach Sikich was asked to served as a practice goalie for the Ducks when they were visiting the Wild during the 2011/2012 NHL season. Anaheim wanted to give Jonas Hiller the morning off and Sikich took his place at practice.
March 12, 2013 Sikich got another call from David McNab. This time the offer was even more substantial. "David made some small talk, asked me if I had been skating," said Sikich. "I said, 'Oh, sure, I've been getting a lot of time on the ice.' Then he told me that Victor Fasth had been hurt during the skate and they needed a goaltender to be in uniform as a backup." Sikich dressed as a backup goalie to Jonas Hiller. (1)
As soon as Anaheim found out that Fasth was hurt they recalled Jeff Deslauriers from the ECHL. Deslauriers arrived at the game 14 minutes into the first period and relieved Sikich of his short NHL duties. "The best part was getting out of the suit I wore to the arena, hanging those clotes into a locker, starting getting into hockey gear, taping sticks," said Sikich. "It was a tremendous thrill." (1)
Zach Sikich had played Division III college hockey and then three years of pro. His bounced around the minor pro leagues and spent his last year playing in Beijing for the 2007/08 China Sharks. A couple years after he had retired Sikich founded and currently operates a goalie school, ProHybrid. Sikich was wearing his bright blue pads from ProHybrid when he sat on Anaheim's bench.
