At 6.08' the towering Jason Missiaen was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in 2008. He was not offered a contract by the club and became a free agent in 2010. Missiaen attended a Columbus Blue Jackets prospect camp that summer but was not signed by the team. Without a home in the OHL a 20 year old Missiaen finished his junior career in the QMJHL. He was on a bad Drakkar team but still caught the eye of a few NHL scouts. March, 2011 he was signed to a three-year contract by the New York Rangers.
The New York Rangers began the 2013/2014 NHL season with the goaltending duo of Henrik Lundqvist and Martin Biron. Early into the season it was clear that Biron's best days were behind him and that he could no longer compete at the NHL level. He was waived and subsequently retired. To replace Biron the Rangers decided to look into their system instead of bringing in an outsider. The job was going to go to either Cam Talbot or Jason Missiaen. Talbot had been recalled first but after dressing in just one game he was returned to the AHL in favor of Missiaen, who the Rangers wanted to observe. Missiaen dressed as Lundqvist's backup for a game before being reassigned to Hartford in favor of Cam Talbot, who had won the backup job. A disappointed Missiaen would not, however, have to wait long before returning to New York. Less than a week later Lundqvist was forced to sit out two games with a minor injury. Missiaen was recalled to dress as backup to Cam Talbot.
