February 28, 1998 Colorado Avalanche vs Chicago Blackhawks. 0-4 loss.
Czech Petr Franek was drafted in the eight round of the 1993 NHL draft by the Quebec Nordiques. It wasn't until Quebec moved to Colorado that Petr Franek made his way to North America.
In 1996 Franek won a World Hockey Championship Gold medal as the Czech Republic's backup goalie. A few months later he was brought to North America by the Avalanche.
Late February, 1998 the Colorado Avalanche decided to give Patrick Roy a day off. Roy was worn down after having played in the Olympics then immediately jumping back into NHL duty. Petr Franek, who had been named December's AHL goalie of the month, was playing strong hockey and was recalled to replace Roy. Franek dressed as Craig Billington's backup in his only NHL appearance.
Franek went back to Europe following the 1998/1999 hockey season. He spent most of his career playing in his native Czech Republic, retiring in 2014.
